I loved this Times article on one of the most undervalued tools of the kitchen.

You're not kidding about the range hood being undervalued. The lady next door to us had an unventilated gas stove and died of lung cancer at age 82, having never smoked a day in her life. We were very close to her, especially my daughter, who used to come home from work and visit her at least three times a week, usually more.
