I'm finishing up the third of four technique books this week, then giving myself an end-of-summer break. I'll be back September 2nd. In the meantime, have a look at the best gone fishing essay of the year by NYTimes reporter C.J. Chivers. Enjoy your summer before it's all gone!

Definitely not a coming-of-age story. The skills these youngsters display, or more accurately, master, seem almost Kafkaesque in this age of almost antiseptic distaste for anything not immediately available online.
Also recommended, Jon Rowley has a classic post from October 2010 on fish handling. It's in two parts, with a link to part two at the end of part one.

I have to ask, what techniques are these four books about?
How To Roast out in October, How To Braise late winter...
Cocktail post snuck in.
Heaven's Gate:

1Tbsp + 1 tsp Huckleberry Haven jam
Fresh huckleberries for garnish - optional
Mix 1 Tbsp jam and liquid ingredients in an ice filled shaker, shake.
Place 1 tsp jam in the bottom of an iced martini glass, poor in the mix, garnish with fresh huckleberries if you have them available.
Cheers, happy Friday all!
