D-R-Mother's-day-@1020 (1)

Mom’s Day is important. Dads, sons, and daughters, undervalue it at your own peril. It’s May 8th. For those of you with wives and moms who love to cook, Mac Dalton and I have put together a special bundle we think all cooking moms will appreciate (no meat grinders and stuffers and smokers!). Moms, if you’re the ones reading this, feel free to send to husbands (we can be slow on the uptake). We’ve decided to include the bamboo scrubber for the giver of this gift—if Mom is doing the cooking, you’ll find this comes in handy after.   The Mom’s Day Bundle— 2 spankettes (the best wood spoons EVER) Badass (aka Egg) spoon A set of offset basting-tasting spoons A small bamboo scrubber (no more sponges gunked up with cheese, dough, egg, scorched milk!) The ever popular Tool Bundle. It features our most popular kitchen items. Photo by Donna Turner Ruhlman.

Time once again to thank the wonderful workers at Vocational Guidance Services in Cleveland for working so hard to ship our kitchen tools throughout the country. VGS has for decades employed those who can’t otherwise find work—the disabled, people who have been homeless, people who are recently out of jail—to give them jobs, or, ideally, prepare them to find work outside this non-profit. In other words, VGS is a valuable part of our community and Mac and I put a strain on them with our recent sales (one last sale offered below!), so we wanted to thank them publicly for their good work. Thank you all!   Another chance for 40% off all Ruhlman products! We wanted to give you another opportunity to purchase holiday gifts for your friends and family! So we’re making all Read On »

I regret I’m not the sort to come out with a new brand of, say, Cheerios because the gluten-free, whole wheat Cheerios are old. I will soon recommend the same pans as last year, because good things last. That, ultimately, is why I care about the products I and Mac make. I love all of them. They’re good and they last. In keeping with Cyber Monday, and happily at that, we’re discounting all kitchen tools for this day. All of them are my favorites; why make anything else?. (Also, I just saw the movie Spotlight and it’s every bit as extraordinary as people are saying; go see it; but remember that a good wood spoon will last longer). And always remember during this stress-filled season, it will all work out in the end. So don’t stress. Read On »

French onion soup. Photo by Donna Turner Ruhlman.

Without question, French onion is my favorite all-around soup. It’s a satisfying, nourishing meal. Not only does it have all the components of a meal—a nutritious broth, a vegetable, cheese, bread, and a big glass of a big red wine—it’s also got all the textural components that satisfy: it’s soft, voluptuous, gooey, chewy, and, if the cheese is properly browned, crispy. It’s an easy and economical soup. And best of all, it requires no stock, either homemade or store-bought. Yes, the best onion soup is made with water alone, seasoned at the end with wine and, if you wish, a few drops of vinegar. And we’re using this great soup to announce a month-long special offer on our offset soup spoons and offset serving spoon (I especially love how their being offset prevents spoons from slipping Read On »

So we’re making all the tools from shop.ruhlman.com 50% off for ONE more day. Be sure to enter the promo code JOY into the designated field. Mac and Michael made these tools to make cooking easier and more fun. My mom loves using them and brags about them constantly. Most recently my friend Tricia Keels of No Chefs Allowed used the Spanker on air with Fox 28 in Columbus, Ohio, to make her Beer Cheese Soup. As you all know, the tools began with the simple offset spoon, Michael’s favorite. Great for basting and skimming as it dips naturally into the pan. The offsetness let to offset soup spoons that won’t slide into the soup! And then the big Read On »
