I think you are channeling your inner Melville...

"Whenever I find myself growing grim about the mouth;
whenever it is a damp, drizzly November in my soul; whenever I find
myself involuntarily pausing before coffin warehouses, and bringing up
the rear of every funeral I meet; and especially whenever my hypos get
such an upper hand of me, that it requires a strong moral principle to
prevent me from deliberately stepping into the street, and methodically
knocking people's hats off--then, I account it high time to get to sea
as soon as I can."

Welcome back, and thank you for sharing the warm festive sunshine of Key West with us, brightening our winter.
The blue Ohio winter that Donna captured in the background, color coordinated with the blue on the rum label and accented by the green of the limes with the fancy Ruhlman ring on the frosted glass is so appealing, I feel the urge to stick my tongue on a flag pole!

As a kid, 10 yrs old or so, my mom had a Daiquiri "phase", albeit the "slushy" kind. My job on canasta nights was to crush the ice old school style-clean tea towel, ice and hammer! I do love a real daiquiri but oh how I miss mom.

I should have noted that lime can of course be substituted, but I find them to be more acidic than key limes so adjust the simple syrup to your tastes accordingly.
